Winding road. . . . Yesterday’s snow and cold rain already started pushing back the memories of sunny Fall days into the back of my mind. I emancipate the memories by looking at the warm tones in this photo where the sun rays momentarily found their way through the dark clouds to illuminate my path and the most colorful part on it. Otter Creek. The magical fall colors are slowly fading where I am. Branches of the trees are visible in parts of Vermont with the falling leaves. The peak of the color change is probably further down south, where it gets colder a little later. It is the shortening daytime and colder nights that trigger the color change. The trees stop photosynthesis and lock down communication with the leaves. This reduces chlorophyll content and with it the green color from the leaves diminishes, allowing the other colors such as yellow to unmask.
