Passage of leaves. . . . Frost is a trigger for the trees to prepare for the coming winter. Shortening daytime and colder nights tells the tree to stop photosynthesis and lock down communication with the leaves that make the tree vulnerable to cold. This reduces chlorophyll content and with it the green color on the leaves diminishes, allowing the other colors such as yellow to unmask before the leaves drop off. Some tree types like the maples also have high levels of glucose, which adds the bright red tones to Vermont’s famous color palette. . . . #fallcolors #vermontinfall #vermont #leaves#autumncolors #foliage incagraphy #nomadinca #frost via Instagram http://ift.tt/2eRFaAy
