St. George and the Dragon, or the Catalan version, Sant Jordi (he is the patron saint of Barcelona). A legend of hundreds of years old with several versions. In a nutshell: in a kingdom that is cursed by a dragon the folk have to regularly sacrifice a randomly chosen young girl to keep the dragon at bay. When the lottery picks the king's daughter the king begs for his daughter to be spared; offers his wealth and half of the kingdom but the people still send the girl to the dragon (a king's wish overruled by people?? Now, that's a legend :) ). Luckily, St. George is in the area right at that moment and he confronts and slays the dragon. Where the dragon's blood drips, a rose grows; hence on each April 23rd, the St. George's day, guys give girls roses, and girls give guys books. #Catalan #barcelona #spain #legend #stgeorge #stgeorgeanddragon #santjordi #carving #stone #stonecarving #architecture #exterior #incagraphy #nomadinca #traveling #traveldestinations

La Pedrera (the quarry) or Casa Milà of Antoni Gaudí. Devoid of sharp corners and straight walls on its façade (and mostly in the interiors), it's a soothing naturalistic modernist design that makes me dream of a home with such curves. Gaudí, a devoted Catholic, actually considered abandoning this project when he was forced to exclude the religious statuary of Mary and two archangels, but was convinced by a priest to complete it. Altough today a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the main attractions in Barcelona, Casa Milà was actually a reason for neighbors to stop talking to Milà, the owner, because they believed the weird building would lower estate prices in the area :) If you squint hard enough, you can see the galactic army's clone soldiers on the roof, camouflaged as ventilation towers. #casamila #casamilà #barcelona #architecture #architecturephotography #landmark #spain #gaudi #antonigaudi #LaPedrara #modernism

Sagrada Familia. Seems like we will get to see it finished (I plan to live at least that long). A true architectural wonder, in my eyes. #barcelona #spain #art #traveling #travelphotography #traveldestinations #sagradafamilia #architecture #artchitecture #architecturephotography #famousbuildings #landmark #cathedral

'Sultrication'. Not the typical graffiti, but rather a mosaic of photographs on a wall in Barcelona. #barcelona #spain #streetart #urbanart #art #wallart #traveling #travelphotography #traveldestinations #lips #kiss #sensual #sultry #mosaic Ps. I know sultrication is not a word... well until now :D

The Warli style 'graffiti'. Warli painting takes its name from India's Warli indigenous tribe (Adivasi) that inhabit the Maharashtra-Gujarat border and surroundinh areas. Their ancient form of wall painting goes back, according to Wikipedia, upto 5000 years and is full of symbolic meanings. The paintings that are recognizable by their geometric patterns, were used mainly for specific occasions and rituals up until 1970s. The painting in the photo is on a wall that surrounds a wall of a water pond that was rehabilitated by students and citizen efforts in Salem, India, after being used as a garbage area by a neighboring temple. #wallart #wallpainting #urbanart #art #warli #warlipainting #indigenous #india #adivasi #graffiti #streetart

Warrior guard. Let's move to the other side of the pond from Montréal to Marrakech. I have seen a few interesting graffiti/drawings there. Here is one. #marrakech #marrakesh #morocco #graffiti #painting #wallpainting #streetpainting #wallart #streetart #art #traveling #traveldestination #traveldestinations #travelphotography #urbanart #urban #warrior #spear #manwithspear #noentry

Another one of Montréal's many cool graffiti works. The gaze. 'She' might be a reason for that "i feel like someone is watching me" feeling. It takes a while for her to become the huge wall serving as someone's creative canvass (the big dumpsterbin mole can give an idea about the size) Montréal, Canada, apparently has plenty of great graffiti work all around the city. I was told that there is even an app that maps them if you want to go exploring. #gaze in #montreal #canada as #graffiti #painting #wallpainting #streetpainting #wallart #streetart #art #womanwithsunglasses #traveling #traveldestination #traveldestinations #travelphotography #urbanart #urban

The Roman Forum. "the site of triumphal processions and elections; the venue for public speeches, criminal trials, and gladiatorial matches; and the nucleus of commercial affairs" To think that it has a history of over two and a half millenia is mind boggling. But in such a long time, how much have we progressed? How do we even measure what progress is, compared to the high times of the Forum? #italy #romanforum #fororomano #archeology #rome #ancient #historicalarchitecture #historiccity #forum #traveldestination #civilization

Internal questions. Good to keep asking these in whatever we do. Today I read an interesting piece from Lucius Seneca, called "On the Shortness of Life" which was shared by @timferriss. As the title implies, this stoic philosopher has some thoughtful things to say about how we value our life and the time we are given. Incidentally, I did this reading shortly after watching, again, the "Secret Life of Walter Mitty", itself a wonderful movie that stirs deep thoughts and makes you ask existential questions with teary eyes. They reminded me of this photo I had taken in an exhibition. If you are having a slow Sunday, I suggest you seek Tim's post or watch the movie, to get it deep as well as slow ;) I also want to add the same quote of Seneca that Tim finished with: "It's not that we have a short time to live, but that we waste a lot of it." (Did I just waste some more of that time on Instagram?? :) ). #exhibit #mirrorselfie #mirror #quote #existentialquestions #existential #blackandwhite

If only all utility-related cabins, doors, boxes, containers, cans, etc. were decorated with this much care, it would be a nice make-up for the urban life. Photo taken in the small coastal town of Sperlonga, Italy. #painting #art #urbanart #utilities #gas #sperlonga #italy #creative
